Week Two Run Two

Today's run started out really great. I had a really bad last few hours at work & I decided that I need to just come home, run & I would work some more later. Unfortunately in my haste to get out of the house I forgot to double check what mileage I was supposed to run. I remembered nearly 2 miles into my run that I was to run 4 miles not 3. My first mile was at a 10:34 pace and it completely zapped me. I also forgot to take my water. My final pace ended up not being too bad but it could have been much, much better. Oh well. I finished the mileage and that it what is important.

Start of Week Two

Not too bad of a start to Week Two. My calves are still tight from Sunday. I think I may have to run in my old shoes on Thursday. If I make it through the next week or so I am actually going to sign up for the race. I hope it doesn't sell out in the next week.

First Long Run

So today was my first day ever running more than a 5k. I had a great pace for the first 2.5 miles even though I was running 5 & walking 1. The last 2.5 was really hard & at times I wasn't sure I would actually be able to run anymore. The lower half of my left calf started cramping & I couldn't get it to loosen up even after I paused to stretch a bit. Actually my leg still hurts over close to two hours later. But its all good, only 110 days until the race.

Run Number Three

Sixteen Weeks until race day.

Today wasn't as good as Thursday but it still wasn't too bad. I am not a morning runner. The problem with that is that most races are in the morning. So for the next 16 weeks I am going to run on Saturday mornings so I can figure out what I need to do to be awake, hydrated & have energy.

Run Number Two

Today was a good day! Pace under 12 min.

I ran in my new shoes today. I got a new pair of Saucony's, the heal of these are a bit lower than my Mizunio's & are a bit more heavy duty. I had to stop & stretch my calves a couple of times but I am not sure if it is the shoes or if it is because of the yoga I did yesterday. I stretched really good & I am going to try it again on Saturday.

Day One

Happy 2013!! This is the year I hope to run my first Mini- Marathon & if I get really adventuresome I might try for a full marathon in the fall. 

The mini I hope to run is the Derby Festival Marathon of April 27th in Louisville. My goal is to run the mini at an average of 13 min pace. I know I am likely going to have to walk a bunch but as long as I finish I will be happy no matter what my final pace ends up being.

So here we go:
